Artwork Guidelines
Supplying Artwork for Printing
Correctly prepared artwork helps avoid delays, reprints, and unexpected results. Files that meet the guidelines below allow stickers and labels to be produced accurately and efficiently.
If you’re unsure about any part of the setup, artwork can be checked before printing and adjusted if required.
Accepted File Formats
Artwork can be supplied in the following formats:
- PDF (preferred)
- EPS
- PNG
- JPG
Vector files are recommended where possible, as they maintain sharpness at any size.
Artwork Size & Scaling
Artwork must be supplied at actual print size.
This means:
- The file dimensions should match the final sticker or label size
- Do not scale artwork inside the file after submission
- Avoid screenshots or low-resolution previews
Supplying artwork at the correct size helps ensure trimming accuracy and proper layout.
Bleed Requirements
All artwork must include a 3mm bleed on all sides.
Bleed ensures colour and background elements extend past the trim edge, preventing white edges after cutting.
Key points:
- Extend backgrounds and images 3mm beyond the final size
- Keep important text and logos inside the safe area
- Do not place critical elements near the edge
Safe Area
A safe area ensures important content isn’t affected during trimming.
Guidelines:
- Keep text and logos at least 3mm inside the trim edge
- Avoid placing fine details near edges
- Allow breathing space around key elements
This is especially important for small labels and curved packaging.
Colour Mode
All artwork must be supplied in CMYK colour mode.
Important notes:
- RGB files may print differently than expected
- Bright screen colours may appear more muted in print
- Colour variations between screens and printed output are normal
For colour-critical jobs, supplying a reference or proof is recommended.
Fonts & Text
Text should be supplied correctly to avoid font substitution issues.
Recommended setup:
- Convert fonts to outlines where possible
- Avoid very thin or small text
- Ensure text remains legible at final print size
Outlined text ensures accuracy and prevents missing fonts during production.
Images & Resolution
All images must be supplied at 300 DPI at final print size.
Avoid:
- Low-resolution images
- Web images pulled from social media
- Upscaling small images to larger sizes
High-resolution images ensure sharp, clean print results.
Borders & Fine Details
Borders and fine details require careful setup.
Recommendations:
- Avoid very thin borders near edges
- Use adequate spacing between elements
- Ensure line weights are suitable for print
Fine details that look clear on screen may not always translate cleanly to print if too small.
Proofing & Approval
Before printing, a digital proof is supplied for approval.
Proofing allows you to:
- Confirm layout, sizing, and placement
- Check spelling and content accuracy
- Approve artwork before production begins
Printing does not proceed until approval is received.
Common Artwork Issues to Avoid
To prevent delays or reprints, avoid the following:
- Missing bleed
- Low-resolution images
- Incorrect sizing
- RGB colour mode
- Text placed too close to edges
Submitting artwork that meets these guidelines helps ensure a smooth production process.
